Exposing the lie…faith over fear!
It shouldn’t be any surprise to us that the devil is a liar. He’s the father of lies and lying is his native language. He lies! That’s just his thing.
So with that being established, it’s important to note how subtle these lies of the enemy can be and many times they are thoughts in our own head. It’s not always the blatant outright lies that we can more easily discern. But because we are not ignorant of the devil’s schemes, we know that even since the garden of Eden, he has shown himself to be a master of deception!
The more we learn and understand God’s nature and truth, the easier it is to detect the lies. This is especially critical in living out the call of God on our lives! I’ve noticed that whenever God tells me to do something outside of my comfort zone in order to get to the next level, fear almost immediately creeps into my mind and I start to doubt what is it that God told me to do! Not so much doubting the “what” but more so the “who”! I begin to question… Me Lord?…ME!?
I can very much relate to the account of Moses in the Bible, making every excuse in the book as to why he was not qualified to do what God told him to do. Moses wasn’t thrilled or honored that he had been hand picked by God Almighty to carry out His divine purposes… he was terrified! But of course as we know, Moses did end up facing Pharoah and leading God’s people out of their bondage in Egypt. By the hand of Moses, God performed one of the most memorable miracles of the Bible in parting the Red Sea for His people to cross on dry ground! Of course God’s plan for His people ends in victory. That seems like it would be a no-brainer right? So why did Moses fear? Why do you and I fear to fulfill the call of God on our lives?
Fear is a liar. God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear. That seed of fear comes from the devil. He is actually the one scared! Our enemy is so afraid of what will happen if we get in alignment with the will of God and go forth in the boldness and authority given to us in Christ. The devil knows that captives will be set free! He knows that he doesn’t stand a chance against us under the power and covering of the Holy Spirit…he’s already been defeated! It is up to us to recognize this spiritual truth and trust God despite how we may feel. If we push through the fear and doubt we will get to experience the thrill and glorious adventure of the Spirit led life. This is the abundant life Jesus came to give us!
It’s like a roller coaster ride that you are initially scared to death to get on! When you are in line your hands are sweating, your heart is pounding, and your eyes have located every route of escape! Those with you convince (or maybe force lol!) you in to the seat, and then there’s no turning back. But once the ride gets going, you are feeling the rush and exhilaration and at the end you are amped up and want to do it all over again!
This is what it is like every time I am afraid to take a leap of faith but do it anyway! Every time I am obedient, I see the fruit and blessing of doing what God told me, and it makes me that much more eager to keep doing it time and time again! There is no better feeling than knowing you are living in your purpose. Yes there may be fear initially, but it doesn’t compare at all to the lasting fulfillment and joy that comes with obedience to God’s word!
God tells us to taste and see that He is GOOD! Blessed are those who trust in Him.
Psalms 34:8
Trust God and take the ride! If there is anything that should scare us, let it be the thought of what we will be missing out on if we don’t!
